" ... and it's not that bubba was a stupid dog, for after all he could fetch with the best of them. even though it was obviously beyond him as to why is it that there were two slippers, for he consistently brought only the left one. or the fact that he never did quite figure out why is it that he should return a perfectly chewable stick to his owner, given how just a moment ago it had been so carelessly discarded. and to this we should not forget to add the more typical dog habits bubba had, from the characteristic clicking noises he'd make when walking on hardwood floors, to the complete mess he'd make out every single newspaper that was not retrieved by nine fifteen. so yes, bubba had his flaws.
but if you were to talk to him, then starting from his jet black eyes, full of what could only be described as bottomless understanding, to the anxious angle of that small stump of a tail of his, which somehow always suggested that his undivided attention was on you, and you only, i would guarantee that there would be no doubt left in your mind as to the fact that bubba - was special. and not just dog special, but something more, something that would not lend itself to be labeled, but at the same time simply could not be ignored. which is why whenever bubba would spend endless hours sitting in the middle of the room, staring into space just beyond his nose, you could not help but get the impression that he was thinking, thinking really hard, thinking about something very important, thinking - about saving the world.
